After high school, Patricia attended Central Michigan where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching and her Master’s Degree in Counseling. Patricia then taught in the Essexville area for over 50 years. She was a dedicated member of the board at Sunrise Family Credit Union, as well as a member of the Elks Club. She would often donate books back to the local school system, and frequently could be found playing the piano while teaching her grandchildren to do the same. Patricia loved to spend the summers with her family at the cabin at Higgins Lake. In 1973 Betty met the love of her life, Russell Schnell, at Whites Restaurant in Bay City. Betty and Russ went on to raise three wonderful children, always setting an example for them as to what a truly faithful and loving relationship looked like. Upon her retirement she spent her summers camping and winters were spent heading to Arizona with Russ until he met the Lord in 2017. At that point she continued to travel and share her radiant smile and infectious laughter with friends they had made all over the U.S. and everyone she continued to meet.
